Saint Barbara:: Funk Zone Mural

After a long flight home from Bali, I woke up a day later to my favorite weekend in Santa Barbara, Summer Solstice. I was excited to get back into the swing of things here in SB and delighted that I had a second opportunity to paint in the Funk Zone. Laura Inks, the program director for the Funk Zone Community Art Project approached me for a weekend of painting during the Solstice festivities. Between hanging out with the other artists while we worked and the parade, it was an offer I couldn't refuse. My piece is a traditional homage to my town and all my friends who call them selves locals. Special thank you to Laura Inks, Danny Meza for helping me with the Saint Barbara lettering, and Gabe Marquez from 400 Media for getting this shoot organized. Learn more about Saint Barbara here, or Santa Barbara in Spanish if you prefer.

Makes me want to have bangs

Megan Part 1

This year I have had all sorts of creative challenges but perhaps my biggest adventure was learning how to use my Canon Rebel SLR in my photography class. As the academic year is winding down, my photos are starting to become more refined into a particular style of photographic interest and post processing that compliments how I see the world. Getting the technicalities out of the way, I can now do more of what I want- meaning that I can mimic what I am seeing in my head and through my eyes via the lens of the camera and computer screen.

This is my friend Megan, you can visit her at the Juice Ranch on Parker Way in SB. She is one of my only friends that is Vegan that actually makes me consider the thought of cutting out animal products!  SToked to have such beautiful and sweet friends like her in my life.

A Day in Beverly Hills with Ashley

My journey in photography has been coming along and I must admit I have having so much fun with it. I had the privilege a couple of weeks ago to photo assist my girlfriend Rachel Moyer on one of her shoots and I was able to snap some photos of my own to practice. We had a beautiful penthouse at the Thompson in Beverly Hills that made for the perfect romantic setting. Stay tuned for more fun projects and my ever evolving photography.

Breaking Compositon Rules

Photography is something I have been wanting to learn for some time now and I feel so blessed to finally understand it- absorbing all the technical information that corresponds. It has taken me 6 weeks to comprehend the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO and how they effect the exposure of the image but I am really starting to get it... finally! I took this photo of a succulent in my yard and I am really pleased with how it came out so I thought I would share it.

Is there a subject or skill set you have been wanting to learn? Don't put it off anymore, the rewards are so gratifying! xo

What's In My Back Pack

This week in photography class we had to do an in class assignment and photograph some of our junk. I missed the last class because I was sick so I didn't know to bring 5 personal items and some magazines for this assignment so I had to make do with that was in my backpack. I actually liked it better this way because I feel like you can tell a lot about someone by what is in their bag/purse. Thank goodness for a sweet girl in my class who also likes surf magazines whom let me use her mags. We had to tear out some pages of the mag and then arrange our stuff on top. Pretty much this is what I have in my back pack every day minus my chap stick.

Keegan Gibbs X Jalama

Malibu local Keegan Gibbs takes some stunning photos and is incredibly talented to say the least. Along with filming the RVCA surf team on a consistent basis, Keegan also captures photos of graffiti artists vandalizing the streets of LA and timeless snaps of the ocean. Check out his portfolio here....

I couldn't help but blog these amazing photos of Jalama Beach that he took recently on a trip up to Santa Cruz. These shots capture the mystic place that is Jalama and reminds me of time spent with Kilian and long walks to Cracks.

Have I ever told you about my amazingly talented best friend Rachel??! Pretty sure I have raved about her on Mischief, but I am here to introduce to you Rachel's new website Rachel Moyer Studio and her aspiring career as a Boudoir Photographer! I happy to say I have assisted her with some of the shoots featured in her portfolio- but her real talent is her keen eye for a sexy, yet classy look her in subject that oozes femininity and invokes the viewer into desire and fantasy. Everything you could possibly want from a boudoir photo. Her style is a modern pin up with the edge of raw film. I am happy to share these photos with you, and by all means, if you are intersted in booking a shoot with her, I highly encourage it! These photos will last you a life time and beyond. Please check out her site and like her on facebook :)

Rose Colored Glasses

This could possibly be my most favorite picture taken on my Canon Rebel since receiving it for my birthday over a year ago.

This photo is entitled "Rose Colored Glasses" and was taken in my home town of Santa Barbara, Ca during the sunset two weeks ago.

I have to credit my amazing boyfriend, our love, and Santa Barbara for this picture.

It really was a joint effort with Kilian on composition and me working the technicals and doing the edit.

I love Santa Barbara so much.
