Rogue Wave Show: Anderson ART Collective

You do not want to miss this amazing event taking place next Saturday in Carpinteria...

Hosted by Anderson Art Collective, and my dear friend Sean Anderson & his lovely family & friends. Sean is a Santa Barbara local whom attended the San Francisco Art Academy and has been praised for his fine art skills, including a commissioned portrait of the San Francisco Mayor Newsom a couple years back, founder and curator of Rumble Art 09, and recently added, however already configured through birth, the Anderson Art Collective.

ROGUE WAVE ARRIVES IN CARPINTERIA AS BENEFIT FOR SURFRIDER FOUNDATION.

Santa Barbara, CA - Anderson Art Collective is the impact zone for Rogue Wave on June 27th when twelve contemporary artists present their work at the gallery in the historic Henry Fish Seed Company building in Carpinteria.

Curators Benjamin and Sean Anderson promise “an edgy and comprehensive survey of contemporary surf art, bringing the rogue-ish energies of the contemporary art world into the realm of surf culture” in this show that benefits the Surfrider Foundation.

Artist Randy Noborikawa, in collaboration with shaper Eric Christensen, brings his own strain of beautiful strange fish, boards contrary to art world trends and all things "surf related". Juxtaposed against the iconic surf photography of Bob Barbour will be work by Scott Richards, Art Director for Quiksilver, who has as his job list, among other things, traveling the globe, directing photo shoots and looking for artistic inspiration everywhere he goes. Blakeney Sanford, known for her installations of rebar, resin and fiberglass constructs her own rogue wave rising thirteen feet above the entrance to the gallery while Benjamin Anderson’s near life-sized oil painting of a shark attack is a reminder of what lives beneath the waves.

Legendary surfboard shaper Rennie Yater’s collaborative efforts with artist Kevin Ancell will also be in the show, having crossed the boundaries into the contemporary arena.

Rogue Wave runs through August 2 and benefits the Surfrider Foundation with five percent of art sales and all proceeds from the opening night, going to the non-profit. The opening is on Saturday, June 27 from 10 am to 10pm with refreshments from the Island Brewing Company starting at 5pm. The Palm Loft Gallery next door is also opening a surf related show on the 27th entitled Making Magic: Surfing Points and Painting Spots. Continuing the theme of their Wet Paint series, there will be a number of small unframed coastal landscapes and five percent of sales will go to Heal the Ocean.

“These two art show openings are the same day as the Rods and Roses Car Show on Linden Avenue and the annual Fourth of July Parade here in Carpinteria. Both galleries are right at the entrance to the Carpinteria State Beach so you have a great destination for surf, sun, cars, music, contemporary and plein air art,” according to Leigh-Anderson director of the gallery.

Anderson ART Collective has six shows on the 2009 Santa Barbara art schedule, all of which will contribute a percentage of sales to non-profit organizations supported by this unique family of contemporary fine artists.

Located at 410 Palm Avenue in Carpinteria, CA, the gallery is open Fri, Sat, Sun from 1-6pm . Phone 805.684.8783 for more information or email info@andersonARTcollective.com.
